A Steady Beat is a Strong Beat

In my teaching years, I have found there is a tendency in students to play a new song too quickly. The result of this is usually a melody with a lot of variation in the timing. Because the student wants to play through the “easy” music at lightning speed, the music becomes divided as the “harder” music is slowed down, making the sound of the song hard to listen to because of the inconsistencies in timing.

At an immature point in our walk with the Lord, we may have found ourselves in a similar place: running hard towards the Lord in some seasons, while in others feeling we are “fine just where we are”, and at others, experiencing short, but sometimes serious, seasons of disobedience. What the Lord desires of us, however, is steady obedience. A steady pace.

When we walk steadily on with the Lord, we live greater lives of testimony to His keeping us as we seek Him continually and worship consistently. Our life will no longer be divided by seasons of passion, indifference, and disobedience. Instead, one life lived for the Lord will result. This is a beautiful melody to the Lord — a steady heart that beats continually for Him.

It is the same in music. In a new piece, slow things down to a pace where you can be steady throughout. Keep in mind: a steady beat is a strong beat in the same way that a steady testimony is a strong testimony.
